GIS for Slums in Rajahmundry

            Slums
                 

  There are 74 identified slums in Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry area. Which covers about 9.2% (4.43 sq.km.) of area and about 38.5% (1,21,350) of population of MCR. Slums are distributed into 37 wards leaving 13 wards as slum free in MCR.
  All these slums have been studied to know various facilities particularly in civil supplies, health and education aspects.

A. Civil Supply

  Usually all commodities like rice, wheat, sugar etc. are supplied to the poor people through fair price (FP) shops and hence the location of FP shops with reference to slums is crucial.
  Out of the total 74 slums in MCR 73 are having FP shops within a distance of 1km and 67 slums are having FP shops within a distance of 0.5 km. Thus it is obvious that about 99% of slums in MCR are accessible to FP shops.

B. Public Health

  Health is a major problem in slum areas. Hence for accessibility to government hospitals is an important requirement for slum population.
  One government general hospital (GGH) and 7 urban primary health centers (UHC) and 9 medical dispensaries are available for health needs of common public in MCR area. GGH is accessible only(≤ 1 km distance) to 13 slums and also that about 84% of slums in MCR are having at least one UHC within 1 km distance.
  Anganwadi centers are the centers established by the government of Andhra Pradesh through a scheme named as "Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)". 70 anganwadi centers were established in the limits of MCR. Out of 74 slums, 71 are having accessibility to anganwadi within a distance of 1 km.

C. Education

  All slums in MCR are having accessibility to a government primary school within a distance of 1 km and 63 slums are having government primary school within a distance of 0.5km. 69 slums are having accessibility to a government high school within a distance of 1 km.

D. Road Connectivity

  Out of the total 355 km. length of road network in MCR, 111 km. (31.35%) of road network is located in slum areas. Of this 111 km., 36 km. is BT road, 72 km. is CC road and about 3 km. is kutcha road. This indicates that most of the slums in MCR are having a proper connectivity through either a BT or a CC road.
